MEDICAL TRANSPARENCY

As Your State House Representative, I Will:

  • Create a Connecticut “Parents’ Medical Rights and Transparency Act”

    • The state could establish a clearly written statutory framework outlining:

    • when parents must be informed,

    • what medical records parents may access,

    • exceptions for emergencies or abuse situations,

    • standards for informed consent,

    • and dispute resolution procedures.

  • Strengthen Informed Consent Requirements

    • Connecticut could require healthcare providers to give parents:

    • plain-language explanations of diagnoses,

    • treatment alternatives,

    • potential side effects,

    • long-term implications, and follow-up care expectations.

  • Require Notification for Non-Emergency Significant Medical Interventions

    • We would define categories of:

    • significant medical procedures,

    • long-term medication plans,

    • invasive treatments,

    • or substantial mental health interventions

  • Improve Transparency in School-Based Health Centers

    • School-based health centers are often controversial because some parents feel excluded from medical decisions.

    • Potential reforms:

    • annual parental disclosure forms,

    • clearer opt-in/opt-out provisions,

    • advance notice of available services,

    • detailed parental consent requirements,

    • mandatory disclosure of outside provider partnerships.
