MEDICAL TRANSPARENCY
As Your State House Representative, I Will:
Create a Connecticut “Parents’ Medical Rights and Transparency Act”
The state could establish a clearly written statutory framework outlining:
when parents must be informed,
what medical records parents may access,
exceptions for emergencies or abuse situations,
standards for informed consent,
and dispute resolution procedures.
Strengthen Informed Consent Requirements
Connecticut could require healthcare providers to give parents:
plain-language explanations of diagnoses,
treatment alternatives,
potential side effects,
long-term implications, and follow-up care expectations.
Require Notification for Non-Emergency Significant Medical Interventions
We would define categories of:
significant medical procedures,
long-term medication plans,
invasive treatments,
or substantial mental health interventions
Improve Transparency in School-Based Health Centers
School-based health centers are often controversial because some parents feel excluded from medical decisions.
Potential reforms:
annual parental disclosure forms,
clearer opt-in/opt-out provisions,
advance notice of available services,
detailed parental consent requirements,
mandatory disclosure of outside provider partnerships.
